Pitkin Man Arrested for Murder

Rapides deputies arrest a Pitkin man for murder early Saturday. Rodney Thompson is accused of the shooting death of 74-year-old Gennieve Ashworth of Freedom Road in Glenmora.
Rapides Deputies say Thompson reported the shooting to Oakdale Police, who turned it over to them.
The investigation is ongoing, and detectives are not releasing any motive for the shooting.

A bond of almost a half million dollars is set for a Grant Parish man accused of criminal sexual conduct with a child. 32-year-old Mitch Walker II of Dry Prong is charged with aggravated rape, sexual battery and indecent behavior.

Opelousas Man Arrested for Vehicular Homicide

An Opelousas man is arrested for vehicular homicide in the death of a Lawtell woman. Troopers say 54-year-old Judy Stelly was a passenger in a truck driven by Nicholas LaFleur, who is suspected of impaired driving.
The wreck happened in Saint Landry Parish yesterday. Troopers say LeFleur lost control and hit a tree.

Pineville City Hall Closed Due to No A/C

Pineville City Hall is closed until tomorrow morning at 8, because the central air conditioning has gone out.
City officials say the 40-year-old unit died on Saturday. They hoped to be back up and running this afternoon, but it will take a while to cool down the building.

Rock the Red Event Draws Crowd Downtown

We hope you had a grand Independence Day weekend.
This was the scene on the banks of the Red River Friday night. The City of Alexandria sponsored its annual Rock the Red event at the amphitheater. There was music followed by a fireworks display.

TSA Requiring Electronic Devices to be Turned On

Some overseas travelers heading to the U.S. may see enhanced security at airports including being asked to turn on their cell phones and other electronic devices before boarding.
The TSA issued a new order that says that powerless devices will not be permitted on board U.S. bound aircraft due to new concerns about potential

Boyce Man Arrested for Vehicle Theft

Rapides deputies arrest a Boyce man for unauthorized use of a vehicle.
Deputies say 34-year-old Calvin Lincecum took the vehicle in May from a home on Ryan Street. He was reportedly drunk and crashed the vehicle the night it was taken.

Local Woman Arrested for Stealing $32k in Bank Fraud

Rapides deputies arrest an Alexandria woman for bank fraud. 49-year-old Anita Toney is also charged with worthless checks.
Deputies say she fraudulently obtained some 32 thousand in cash from a local credit union over a four-month period, starting in January.

Peason Wildlife Management Area Adds 18k Acres

The state is adding almost 18 thousand acres to the Peason wildlife management area. That action came today in Baton Rouge.
This particular management area is north of Leesville in Sabine, Natchitoches and Vernon parishes.
