Two suspects are arrested for weapons and narcotics charges after a reported assault with a gun in the 700 block of Everett Street.
Derrick Thomas Junior and Jacorey Robinson, both of Alexandria, are charged with drug possession and a firearm offense.

2 Arrested on Lee After Shots Fired

Alexandria police arrest two people after reports of shots fired late Monday in the 44 hundred block of Lee Street. Dametris Bowles and Jazzmyn Wellington, both of Alexandria, are both charged with discharge of a gun in a roadway and possession of a gun with a destroyed serial number.
Wellington is also charged with drug possession.

Lawsuit Filed on Common Core

Parents and teachers who support common core file a lawsuit against the governor. The lawsuit claims Governor Bobby Jindal’s efforts to suspend testing contracts to undermine common core is a violation of the state constitution.
Jindal, who once supported common core, insists the suit has no merit.

ULL Bomb Threat A Diversion for Bank Robbery

Lafayette authorities say a 30-year-old man is responsible for bomb threats last Wednesday on the ULL campus. Devin Haywood is also charged with attempted bank robbery the day of the bomb threat.
The threat was a hoax. Someone phoned in the threat to KATC-TV in Lafayette, shutting down the campus of about 55 hundred people.

Servies for Larry Jeane to Be Held Thursday

Services for Pineville and Ward Marshal Larry Jeane will be held Thursday morning at 10 at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Pineville.
Jeane died Sunday as a result of injuries sustained in an auto accident. He was 68.

Campers Learn Shadow Puppetry

Campers at the Alexandria Museum of Art are learning the ancient art of shadow puppetry. The theme for the camp is “Playing in the Shadows”.
Instructor Cindy Blair is teaching these budding artists how to make their own shadow puppets. They’re also learning to create stop-motion animation shorts and the stars are their creations.

Local Children Play with Animals at Vet Camp

A vet camp is being held this week at the TREE House Children’s Museum. These campers get to play with animals for this weeklong experience at the children’s museum. Their theme is “Get Set to Be a Vet.”
It’s sponsored by Proctor and Gamble. And, we may have among these campers some future veterinarians or zookeepers.
