Local Republicans Host Son of Ronald Reagan

Local Republicans raise money this weekend for their cause and their candidates by paying to hear from the son of the late President Ronald Reagan. Michael Reagan is a former radio talk-show host.

Reagan dinners are held throughout the country for conservative causes. Reagan now lives in California.

Mike Small to Defend Fort Polk Soldier in Assault Case

Prominent criminal lawyer Mike Small of Alexandria is defending a Fort Polk soldier shot last weekend by an Alexandria policeman.
State police arrested Mitchel Ryan Bethin today after he was discharged from the hospital. Bethin is accused of aggravated assault with a firearm and simple battery.

Local Woman Shoots Man in Apparent Domestic Dispute

An Alexandria woman is arrested for shooting a man this afternoon at the Cabana Mobile Home Estates on North Bolton. She’s 73-year-old Judy Hernandez.
Police say it appears to have been a domestic dispute. The man was treated on the scene and taken to a local hospital.
She’s charged with attempted murder.

18-Year-Old Arrested for Inappropriate Behavior with Forest Hill Girl

A Glenmora teen is arrested for inappropriate behavior with a Forest Hill girl. 18-year-old Jesus Romero Rubio is charged with contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile and oral sexual battery.
Rapides deputies say the complaint came in a couple weeks ago, and that started the investigation.

Documentary Features Louisiana Woodstock

Did you know Louisiana had its own Woodstock? It’s the subject of a one-time screening of a documentary, McCrea 1971: Louisiana’s Forgotten Rock Festival.
It will be shown September 4th here at the Fox Theatre in Marksville. The festival was named for McCrea, a small community south of Avoyelles Parish.

A coalition of volunteers, many from area churches, is providing services to the homeless, the needy and the under-served. Volunteers of America is helping with this project which will be conducted next Thursday from 10 until noon in the parking lot of Emmanuel Baptist Church.

Volunteers Working Hard on Cenla Race for the Cure

The Komen Race for the Cure is less than two months away, and volunteers are working hard. The Cenla Race for the Cure Committee meets to recruit and inform new volunteers about the race. It’s October 11th in Downtown Alexandria.

The short list is released for the next NSU President. Lisa Abney is provost at NSU; James Henderson is Chancellor of Bossier Community College; Linda Rinker is Provost at Davenport University; and Renva Watterson is Interim President of Georgia Highlands College.
