Miss LA Prepares to Compete for Miss America

Miss Louisiana 2014 Lacey Sanchez is leaving Monday for the Miss America Competition. Sanchez hopes to become the first-ever Miss Louisiana to win the crown.
She’s an LSU graduate and member of the track team where she competed in the pole vault. Sanchez is from Baton Rouge.
The competition in Atlantic City begins September 8th.

APD Search for Tire, Wheel Thieves

Alexandria police say there’s been an increase in tire and wheel thefts in recent months. They say it’s happening citywide. Typically, they say, a homeowner goes to his vehicle and finds it sitting on blocks.
Police ask for your help in finding the thieves. Call if you see anything suspicious.

Sanders Murder Trial to Begin Next Week

Opening arguments are expected next week in federal court in the capital murder trial of Thomas Steven Sanders.
The 57-year-old man is accused of slaying a 12-year-old girl 4 years ago. The prosecution is asking for the death penalty.

Nachman Elementary Families Participate in “Walk Night”

Families of students at Nachman Elementary get off their couches and take a hike, sort of.
2 physical education teachers late yesterday organized the Nachman Walk Night. Parents and students were invited for the hour-plus walk on the school campus.
Margaret Laborde and Rebecca Cook say the event was planned to promote family fitness and togetherness.
