Contestants sought for Natchitoches Queens Scholarship Program

NATCHITOCHES – Contestants are being sought for the 2013 Natchitoches Queens Scholarship Program to be held Sunday, September 15, 2013 at the Natchitoches Events Center.

Louisiana’s Rice Crop in Decent Shape

Louisiana’s rice crop is midway through its growing season, and despite delays, the crop is in decent shape.  LSU AgCenter correspondent Tobie Blanchard has an update on the crop and a look at the future.

Rapides Deputies say they’ve solved an arson case from January.  They’re 53-year-old James Stracener and 35-year-old Sandie Stansbury.  Both are from Elmer.  And 41-year-old Michael DeVito and 29-year-old Samantha Stracener, both of which are from Pollock.

State Treasurer Kennedy Addresses Downtown Rotary Club

State Treasurer John Kennedy says Louisiana can save millions of dollars by dropping unneeded contracts, mostly in the education department.  Today, Kennedy presented his plan to members of the downtown rotary club.

Kennedy got his start in state government by working as an attorney for former Governor Buddy Roemer.

Area Police Make Large Dent in Drug Fight

Area law enforcement agencies make a big dent in their fight against drugs.  The Natchitoches Drug Task Force takes seven people into custody on a long list of charges.  Agents say those charges stem from a long investigation into drug distribution in the Campti area.
