LA Residents Gather to Learn About “Stand Your Ground” Law


Residents in Louisiana gathered today to learn more about our state’s version of the Stand your Ground law.  Here’s a look at what the law really means.

New 5th Congressional District Candidate


The first candidate from the southern part of the sprawling 5th Congressional District says he will run.  Robert Johnson of Marksville is an attorney, a Democrat and a State Representative.
All other candidates who’ve said they’ll run are from North Louisiana, Columbia or Monroe.

Qualifying for Parish & Municipal Oct. 13th Elections Ends Tomorrow

Fort Polk’s 162nd Infantry Brigade Has a New Commander


Fort Polk says farewell to Tiger Land’s 162nd Infantry Brigade Commander.  Colonel Matthew McKenna is giving up command after two years as head of the Tiger Brigade.  McKenna led the training of about seven thousand military men and women as they trained for service in Iraq and Afghanistan.
His successor is Colonel James Brown.

Teenager Charged with Murder


A teenager is now charged with murder in a shooting yesterday.
Alexandria police arrested 17-year-old Isaiah Anthony of Alexandria for the shooting death of 28-year-old Demarcus Green, also of Alexandria.  Police say the two had a fight which led to the shooting yesterday afternoon.  Green later died at the hospital.

2nd Hostage in Bank Standoff Dies


A second hostage in this week’s bank standoff here in Louisiana has died here in Alexandria at Rapides Regional Medical Center.  LeDean McDaniel passed away this morning at a hospital.  He was one of three bank employees taken hostage by Fuaed Ahmed in the rural town of Saint Joseph Tuesday.

October Elections Qualifying Next Week


Qualifying for October elections in Central Louisiana is off to a slow start.
On Monday, candidates will travel to Baton Rouge to sign up for the congressional race.  All elections will be held October 19th.
Political subdivision races are being held in Rapides, Avoyelles, Grant, Natchitoches and Vernon.  The local qualifying continues through Friday afternoon.  Congressional qualifying [...]

Plans Underway for Waste Tire Facility at Rapides Port
