ARTS COUNCIL OF CENTRAL LOUISIANA AWARDED SOUTH ARTS DANCE TOURING INITIATIVE

ArtsCouncilAlexandria, La-Central Louisiana will continue to receive top quality dance performances. The Arts Council of Central Louisiana was awarded the South Arts Dance Touring Initiative (DTI), a competitive and intensive three-year program supporting performing arts presenters throughout the South. With funding from the National Endowment for the Arts, venues across the South will develop a rich selection of performances, workshops, and audience engagement activities to connect local audiences with touring modern dance and contemporary ballet companies. “This grant provides the Arts Council with the means to bring in high quality professional touring companies such as Ballet Magnificat! on Sunday, March 22 at 2:30pm and Dance Theater of Harlem in October,” states Marketing Director, Brandy Wills.

The Arts Council is one of ten arts presenters from eight Southern states (Alabama, Florida, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee) that will receive professional development, take part in residency planning visits with artistic directors from major national dance companies, and receive financial support to provide both educational programming and public performances for our audiences. Executive Director, Matt Henry feels that, “This is a wonderful opportunity for the Arts Council of Central Louisiana to further develop our working relationships with other presenters throughout the south, thanks to our involvement with the Louisiana Presenter’s Network.  We look forward to our continued collaboration with our friends at the South Arts organization.  Thanks to this relationship, we continue to work to develop our Downtown Cultural Arts District as a destination for not only our community, but for our region and state as a whole.”
