On Tuesday May 17th, 2016 at approximately 10:30 pm, Sheriff’s Dispatch received approximately 5 calls in reference to motorists being the victim of someone throwing rocks and hitting their vehicles in the areas of LA Highway 3225 and Oaklane Road in Tioga.
Each victim had damage done to their vehicle including one victim who was struck in the face by glass fragments when their windshield was shattered. Some victims even reported losing control of their vehicles when they were hit. Deputies searched the area extensively but could not locate any suspects.
The case was assigned to Detectives from the Tioga Sub-station for further investigation. On Wednesday May 18th, 2016, at approximately 10:50 pm, Deputies again responded to the same general area in reference to unknown subjects throwing rocks at vehicles traveling on LA Highway 3225. The victim told deputies 3 white males jumped from a ditch on the side of the road and threw rocks at his vehicle, which caused him to run off the road. A Sheriff’s supervisor was traveling behind the victims vehicle in a marked patrol unit and was also struck by rocks.
While gathering the victims information, Deputies received information from witnesses that saw 3 white males running toward Dean St. from LA 3225 which is near the location of the last complaint. Deputies responded to this area and quickly located three suspects, later identified as Jared Nugent, Gage Hull and Hayden Weltz and took them into custody.
Through Detectives investigation and evidence recovered at the scene, Deputies were able to arrest all three suspects for 7 counts Aggravated Criminal Damage to Property and 1 Count Aggravated Battery.
All suspects were transported to the Rapides Parish Detention Center and booked on charges from both May 17th and May 18th . All three subjects were later released on a $1400.00 bond each.
Arrested: 17 year-old Gage Preston Hull of Pineville, LA; 17 year-old Jared Robert Nugent of Pollock, LA; and 18 year-old Hayden Thomas Weltz. Each charged with 7 counts Aggravated Criminal Damage to Property and 1 Count Aggravated Battery
