The Alexandria Museum of Art announces their new signature event, the Farm to Forest Plein Air Festival. The new festival, scheduled for October 13-17, 2021, is centered around the art of open air painting, known as painting en plein air. Plein air painting refers to the act of painting outdoors, capturing the spirit and essence of a landscape or subject by incorporating natural light, color and movement. Plein air festivals and events are popular nationwide for both artists and collectors, and provide many opportunities for community engagement. During the festival, curious observers can watch artists paint on location, register for public workshops and celebrate with multiple days of family-friendly events hosted by the Alexandria Museum of Art. Paintings produced during the festival will be available for sale throughout the week and at the Arts Council’s Fall Art Walk on Saturday October 16. On Sunday, join AMoA for the Palette Party, the festival’s final awards ceremony and art sale event featuring local vendors showcasing their signature dishes and drinks. “We sought to create a festival that was tied closer to our mission to foster a culturally rich community by engaging, enlightening and inspiring individuals through innovative art experiences.” said Catherine McCrory Pears, Director of the Alexandria Museum of Art.“We want the citizens of Central Louisiana to enjoy the opportunity to see artists in action creating works that reflect the beauty of our region…and hope that they will feel compelled to purchase these paintings for the benefit of the Alexandria Museum of Art and participating artists. Additionally, we wanted to present an event that could weather the uncertainty of COVID restrictions. This outdoor painting event was just the ticket!” Since reopening in June of 2020, the museum has maintained all covid-related protocols to maintain operations. All festival activities are scheduled to be outdoors, and the art produced will be displayed inside in a no-touch environment with room for social distancing and highly filtered air. A detailed list of health & safety precautions can be found on the museum’s website. Festival details such as artist registration, painting locations, and FAQ’s are available now at farmtoforestpleinair.com. Farm to Forest Plein Air Festival is currently seeking community partners and sponsors to make this new, collaborative arts festival an engaging and successful event for local businesses and visitors alike. “Breathtaking and unique landscapes are essential to developing any plein air event, and Central Louisiana has plenty to offer!” said Olivia Helmer, Director of Development and Community Relations. “This event concept has been crafted to showcase not only Central Louisiana’s arts and festivals community at a national level, but also establish clear and long-term connections between arts and tourism sectors and the rich agricultural identity of our region.” Current sponsors include: The Louisiana Office of Tourism, Louisiana Central, Inglewood Farms, Plein Air Magazine, Blick Art Supplies, and the Southern Forest Heritage Museum.
