Alexandria Man Dies While in Rapides Parish Jail

A 37-year-old Alexandria man died Sunday night in a detention cell in the Rapides Parish Jail downtown. He’s Cory Deshun LaFleur, whom deputies say was found unconscious and not breathing after a routine check of his cell.

Deputies and medical personnel started CPR, but he was pronounced dead at the scene. The investigation is ongoing, but deputies say foul play is not suspected.

He had been arrested twice over the weekend, the last time for begging and remaining on the premises.
