9 Arrested, 1 Wanted in Heroin Distribution Case

Rapides Parish deputies report the arrests of nine people after an extensive investigation into heroin distribution.

One is still at large. He’s 24-year-old Rufus Bartholomew Fells Junior of Alexandria.
Search warrants were served in Alexandria on Essie Street, Twin Bridges Road, Deerfield, Shannon Road and Heron Circle. The arrests were made Friday.
Deputies say they recovered around 70-thousand-dollars worth of heroin in street value.
“This surge of heroin in our area is alarming. There have been several overdoses and our agents have seen more heroin use in the last two years than we ever have before” said Sheriff William Earl Hilton. “We will continue this type of aggressive enforcement to help keep the citizens of Rapides Parish safe.”
A new law raises the maximum penalty for repeat offenses from 50 to 99 years in prison. The new law also increases the mandatory minimum amount of time those convicted even once of dealing the drug must serve in prison to 10 years, up from five.
Sheriff Hilton would like to thank US Marshal Henry Whitehorn, Western District-LA and Natchitoches Parish Sheriff Victor Jones for their assistance in this operation.
