6-Year-Old Dies After Being Shot During Vehicle Pursuit

A 6-year-old is dead and a suspect in a fleeing vehicle is in critical condition after officer-involved shootings in Marksville.  State police say it happened last night on MLK Drive when a couple of Ward Two city marshals shot at a vehicle after the end of a pursuit.

The Avoyelles newspapers say the driver tried to ram a police unit when the officers opened fire.

Authorities say bullets struck the child multiple times and hit the man twice.  Coroner LJ Mayeux IDed the child as Jeremy David Mardis.  The newspapers say the man is Chris Few, and state police have not clarified their relationship.

State police, at this point, say they are even questioning who shot into the vehicle

We have learned the two marshals involved are also on the payroll of the Alexandria City/Ward Marshal Terrence Grines.  Grines says it’s not unusual for law enforcement agents to work at other jobs in other jurisdictions.  He says one is a full-time employee here and the other, part-time.

He declined to name them, saying he did not want to interfere with the advice their attorneys have given them.

School officials say counselors are being provided for the little boy’s classmates at Lafargue Elementary.
