Food Bank & Suddenlink Team Up for Canned Food Drive

The Food Bank of Central Louisiana partners with Suddenlink this time of year for the largest canned food drive of the year.  It coincides with the holidays, so needy families can have Thanksgiving and Christmas tables filled with nutritious food.

Man Arrested for Battering a Woman


A man is arrested for battering a woman with a stick.  34-year-old Leonard Jimmerson is charged with aggravated battery.  Police say the woman was treated and released.
It happened early yesterday under the interstate overpass near Flora Street.

Rapides Inmate Smuggles Contraband into Jail Via Body Cavity


A Rapides Parish inmate is arrested for possession of contraband smuggled into the jail in a body cavity.
38-year-old Shane Crain of Alexandria is charged with possession with intent to distribute.  Deputies say two bags of marijuana and tobacco were removed at a hospital.

Trick or Treat Events Moved to Wednesday!


Trick or Treating Times Have Changed for Rapides Parish.
The City of Alexandria has authorized “trick or treating” from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.  on  Wednesday, Oct. 30, in lieu of the traditional Halloween night, Oct. 31, due to anticipated potential severe weather.

Alarming Increase in Heroin Deaths, Says Coroner


One parish coroner says there’s an alarming increase in deaths due to heroin overdoses and he thinks more lenient penalties for dealing in the drug may be to blame.  Jason Newton has more.
