City Parks Get New Signs


City parks are getting a little sprucing up.  New signs will grace the entrances to all the parks, like this one in Martin Park.  They’ll identify the park and provide regulations.

Insurance Commissioner Addresses Obamacare Implementation

State Insurance Commissioner Jim Donelon says there are 5 major issues connected to Obamacare, which starts October 1st.  The first, whether there’s a penalty for not having health insurance.

Other points he brings up are:  are subsidies available, plans are by categories, companies cannot deny applicants, and small business owners have a program.

Man and Woman Arrested for Attempted Murder


A man and woman are arrested for attempted murder in connection with a shooting that happened on MacArthur Drive.  They’re Allisa Smith and Antonio Veal, both of Alexandria.
The victim suffered a non-life threatening gunshot wound.
Smith was arrested with help from the U.S. Marshal’s Fugitive Task Force yesterday.  Veal was taken into custody today.

Alexandria Man Arrested for Attempted Murder


An Alexandria man is arrested after shooting another man on Lee Street early Sunday morning.  Major Tarleton Junior is charged with second-degree attempted murder.
The victim was treated and released from a local hospital.

Juvenile Arrested for Shooting Death


Alexandria Police arrest a juvenile for a shooting death last night in the 18 hundred block of Orchard.  The victim is 19-year-old Antonio Jones.  He was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

Meat Pie Triathlon September 29

NATCHITOCHES – The 11th Annual Meat Pie Triathlon is scheduled for Sunday, September 29, 2013, in downtown Natchitoches.  One of the state’s largest triathlons, over 250 competitors ages 14 to 84 are expected to compete in the Meat Pie Triathlon which will serve as this year’s Louisiana State Championship.

Road Work: 4th Street in Leesville

Leesville, LA— Please be advised that due to construction, 4th Street will be closed and re-open daily at 5:00 p.m. to incoming and outgoing traffic.  The Vernon Parish Police Jury is in the process of building pads for the new Vernon Parish Jail.

CASA Fundraiser at Bistro on the Bayou

Creole Heritage Celebration
