JACKSON STREET BRIDGE – CLOSED
Mechanical difficulties are causing officials to shut down the Jackson Street Bridge. It will remain closed until the repairs are finished.

FORMER JURY MEMBER BACK IN FEDERAL COURT
Former Rapides Police Jury member Steve Bordelon is back in federal court. He is being re-tried for charges of bribery and theft of federal funds.
His first trial last fall ended in a mistrial. The jury could not reach a verdict after 2 and a half days of deliberations. Jury selection resumes in the morning before presiding Judge Dee Drell.

ONION RECALL
A California company is recalling more than a ton of chopped red onions. Gills Onions says the recalled onions were distributed to retailers in 14 states and Canada.
Louisiana isn’t part of the recall, but neighboring Texas is. The company fears the onions could carry the listeria bacteria. Listeria can cause high fevers and severe headaches, and is potentially fatal. All of the onions are past their “use by dates” of May 14th, 15th and 17th.

MURDER CONVICTION
A jury finds a Tioga man guilty of killing his wife, and bloodying the nose of their two-year-old who was in her arms.
Joseph Anton Chehardy, Jr. will be sentenced on May 25th to life in prison. Chehardy shot and killed Janeva Chehardy, also known as Sissy, two years ago at her father’s home. Chehardy reportedly thought his wife was cheating on him. He shot her 7 times.

GLENMORA FATALITY
A Glenmora woman dies in a single-vehicle crash Thursday morning in Allen Parish. Troopers say 47-year-old Donna Fee lost control of her car on Highway 112, north of Elizabeth, and ran off the road, hitting a driveway.
She was not wearing a seat belt – and was ejected from the vehicle.

EARTHQUAKE
An earthquake rattled people living just a couple hours away. People in parts of Texas and Northwest Louisiana felt the rumbling early this morning.
The U.S. geological survey says the 4.3 magnitude quake struck three miles east of the city of Timpson, near the Louisiana border. It’s the second earthquake that has hit the area in a week.
The tremor threw items off the shelves at stores and pulled bricks off the building. So far, there are no reports of serious damage. An elderly woman was injured after falling out of her bed during the quake.

BASEBALL AT THE LOUISIANA HISTORY MUSEUM
Alexandria has always been a baseball town. A new exhibit at the Louisiana History Museum shows off some baseballs with historic autographs. From the late 40′s, there are names of New York Yankee players. And, other baseballs date from the 50′s and 70′s.
The museum is open 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, and is located on Washington Street, next door to the main library. Tour groups can request special lectures on the history behind the exhibits.
